15/08/2016 – 92-year-old WWII Veteran Rescued Following Fall

On the 15th Of August at 9.47am Derrynane Inshore Rescue was alerted by Valentia MRSC to a 92 year old who had a broken hip on a remote Island near Oysterbed Pier, Sneem. The crew were mobile at 10.02am and arrived on scene at 10.27am. Due to the good sea conditions the crew were making 40 knots down the Kenmare Bay.

The crew rendezvoused with HSE paramedics at Oysterbed Pier and brought them to the casualty who was situated near Einaun Island. The paramedics attended to the elderly man and stabilised him for transport. The 92 year old WWII veteran was then stretched onto the Rescue boat and brought back to the awaiting ambulance on Oysterbed Pier.
